Best Beach for Scuba Fans
Cannon Beach, Key Largo Named for the 17th-century cannons that adorn it, Key Largo’s Cannon Beach is part of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and offers outstanding snorkeling and scuba diving conditions. Best of all, you don’t have to go far to see this underwater city: Just swim offshore about 100 feet to the Spanish shipwreck that’s home to marine life such as parrotfish, damselfish, barracuda, brain coral, sea fans and more.

Best Beach to Watch a Sunset
Polihale State Park, Hawaii On the southwest side of Kauai, Polihale State Park may not be the most accessible beach (you have to veer off HI-50 and drive down a rutted dirt road for five miles), but it’s well worth the trip. Make a pit stop at Ishihara Market (9890 Kahakai Road) in Waimea to pick up a few brews (we recommend Longboard Island Lager) and snacks and watch the sun cast an amber glow on the water and dramatic Na Pali Coast as it disappears below the horizon.
Best Beach for Kids
Coronado Central Beach, San Diego A quick drive from downtown San Diego, Coronado Central Beach caters to families with its gently lapping waves and strict ban on alcohol and smoking. Claim your slice of sand during low tide, when the receding ocean leaves small pools of water that are perfect for little ones to make a splash. If the kids need to satisfy their sweet tooth, the landmark Hotel Del Coronado provides all the essentials you need to make s’mores at the beachfront fire pits. And when you want a break from the sand, SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo are just 15 minutes away.
There was a time when an all inclusive resort vacation was synonymous with a bargain-basement getaway. Images of tourists jostling each other in the buffet line and sinking too much free booze were common. Those days have come and gone. Today’s all-inclusive resorts are intent on continuously raising the bar and outdoing each other. All-inclusive resorts do offer one thing in common: the ability for travelers to accurately budget the full cost of a vacation. Other than that, all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean provide a wide range of vacation experiences.
Beaches Turks & Caicos
Families will find themselves in vacation overdrive when they book a stay at Beaches Turks & Caicos. The resort is on a 12-mile stretch of white sand beach. The littlest kids will be enthralled by activities and performances by Sesame Street characters, including fan favorites Elmo and Cookie Monster. Teenagers have their own private disco, Liquid at Beaches. The whole family will enjoy the resort’s Xbox 360 Game Garage and the resort’s 45,000-square-foot water park featuring a SurfStream simulator. The resort comprises three villages replicating the ambience of Italy, France and the Caribbean; with restaurants to match.
Club Med Punta Cana
As all-inclusive resorts developed over the years, they did a great job instituting children’s clubs for kids age four to 12. Club Med Punta Cana is an excellent fit for active families, since a Club Med vacation is all about being on the move. Vacation January through March and you’ll have the option of taking an excursion to view migrating humpback whales.
Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita
Romance-minded lovers will fall head over heels for Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita. Part of the resort’s charm is its beginning as a European Plan resort that was filled with the owner’s collection of art from around the world, everywhere from Bali to Peru — including a pair of 16th-century Balinese dragons greeting guests on arrival. The pace at Zoëtry is relaxed, and the emphasis is on health and wellness without being strident. While it has the ambience of an adults-only resort, kids are welcome. Dining is a la carte, with a choice of al fresco venues or intimate candle-lit settings. The spa has the usual round of treatments, with one exception: a Maya Temazcal, which is something like a primitive steam room overseen by a Maya shaman. Water and herbs are splashed over red hot rocks as the shaman relates Maya tales in the darkness. It is a transformative experience that makes a perfect prelude to a complimentary sundown ride on the resort’s catamaran.

4 CRUISE MONEY SAVING TIPS
- Save big with timing and flexibility. An affordable one-week cruise in May can cost you hundreds of dollars less per person than the same ship and itinerary in travel-heavy June. Fares are seasonal, with the lowest from about the second week of September until the week before Thanksgiving and the highest in summer and during holiday periods. Early booking discounts are nearly always offered; last-minute discounts might be available as well.
- Know other ways to get a good deal. Fare discounts may be available for senior citizens, and children sometimes sail free with their parents. Regional discounts may be available, particularly if a cruise line is trying to introduce a ship into a port near where you live. Loyal passengers are often rewarded with price cuts and other goodies.
- Learn your accommodation options. Advertisements for low fares inevitably include the word “”from ?”” and the figure that follows is going to get you on board in the lowest category; if you want a better cabin, you’ll pay more for the space and location you prefer.
- Remember the advantage of paying in advance. Here’s one thing that nearly everyone agrees on: It’s a great feeling to have the majority of your vacation expenses paid before leaving home. This includes cruises.
